S&W just looks like your best worry-free bet. My family has been a proponent of classic S&W firearms, so I chose the M&P for my first AR-15 and I have not been disappointed.

Strych ..... get Magpul followers in your USGI mags and you can run 545 in them with no problems. Marky does it with his full autos and has no probs out of them. That way you dont have to keep separate mags ... just one mag for two guns. But you can also tell the mags apart because the 545 mag has only 2 ribs where the USGI has 3.

an AR in 5.45 just doesn't seem right? and how long do you think the surplus will be around?

As long as the import of ammo is allowed and foreign labor is cheaper -probably a while.
The only troubles I see w/5.45 is availability & quality. Where you can find it in stock they usually have pretty good amts of it. I've never seen any at a wallyworld.

I think it's cheap enough to stock up on it while it's around and not worry about a thing.

When it does start to run out...hey, just go to a 5.56 upper.

Seems to be able to fit all your 5.56 needs without the cost.

Plus the surplus stuff is all steel core....so if you're one of those people that believes one day you may have to face armored assailants and tyrannical freedom eating governments then it's a plus of Armor Piercing ammunition for you...once again, at less cost.

We'll cross the shortage role when we get there.
