They make it look so easy on tv
It's been some years, but when I lived in NY for a while I'd go to the Verendrye in Quebec after Walleye. Took along a lot of lures but had the best fishing with feather jigs. Lost a lot of jigs on the rocky bottoms. Color seemed to make a huge difference.

what colors were you using?
The best color seemed to be Green. All of us that went there had our own molds, so we'd cast, dip and tie our own jigs. Bucktail, feather and a few just plain. Black, White, Red and Purple were also pretty good on some days. A few Yellow and Blue jigs got used too, but Green was usually the preferred color.
Another very effective bait rig for Walleye is the Lindy Rig. The sinker is just a slip sinker. A special mold is available, but not really necessary. Sometimes a tiny foam float attached about 6" from the hook will produce better action than the plain rig. Works with Worms, Minnows or Leeches.

I was reading about a rig like this last night. I'm planning on trying that. What did ya'll use on your jigs? Just artificial or live to?
On the Jigs, generally used a worm or a leech, but some days the fish went after plain Jigs.

It must be some good fishing for them to bite a plain jig head
The Verendrye had the best fishing I've ever gotten into. Then, when the bite would slow down, Val d'Or was a wide-open town. My brother and I would go ither places in Canada, once we drove to Lac Mistassini - that was the end of a long, very bad dirt road, and caught exactly ONE puny Northern in a week of fishing. Canoed down the Moose River to James Bay one year - good fishing, but nothing spectacular. A train brought us and our canoe back to civilization.

The canoe trip sounds like it would be great.
