Differences are..it''s a piston pushing the bolt, not gas out of a tube. It's supposed to keep the bolt cleaner and cooler. More parts, less availability of parts, might keep the bolt cooler and cleaner but the gas block and piston get dirty and that block gets freakin' hot.

forgot about the fact that piston driven guns are generally heavier... but I'd still like to add one to the collection.

If you are shooting suppressed you won't have gas shooting in your face but it's louder. Honestly I don't think the extra expense is anywhere near being worth what you get in return. A decent DI AR will run perfectly fine for a 1000 round carbine course do you really need more than that? In fact a good AR would likely run with a piston gun up into the multiple thousands of rounds till you see the piston gun pull away.

I kinda like the para ttr because you can run a folding stock with it, but other than that, if I could only have one, it would be DI. I don't want the added weight and extra parts on the piston ar15s. Kinda on of those things where some people will swear by a piston gun, and some will swear by DI.

Oh yeah, If I were in the market for one. It'd be the S&W M&P15PS, mainly because Palmetto State Armory has them for $899, or $999 with the quad rail, and S&W customer service has always been great to me.

Pistons only weigh a few ounces. No big deal. An M-4 with piston weighs less than 20" DI. Cool bolt with minimal residue and a snap to clean.

For our purposes, the real difference is what is your preference!
