    Default Alaska travelogue

I'm still getting settled in, here in the land of flush toilets, but I did get this done last night. It takes a bit, as I write the code myself. Also made a trip this month to Michigan to see my dad.
    Here's the Alaska link:
Alaska 2009, the place to be!

And here's a pic of me and my folks. My dad is WWII Navy vet. (South Pacific)

I was asked how much a trip like this costs.... so I'll try to tell.
    1st Class ATL-Seattle-Anchorage-Fairbanks June 21st
    1st Class Fairbanks-Seattle-Atlanta July 13th/14th
    23 days altogether

This round trip was paid by using 45,000 Delta Frequent Flyers miles, most of which I got by signing up for an American Express card.

I left home with $400 cash, got another $100 out of the atm in Fairbanks. The only room charge I had was one night, July12th, at a motel in Fairbanks before I came home, credit card $100. I stayed free with my niece and then with my brother.

Flight Fairbanks - Eagle one way $170 + $0.70 per lb baggage over 30 lbs, cost me $250 altogether on credit card. I took 2 cases of Miller High Life, $18 cash at the store, but about $14 freight.... for each case.... I used a credit card for about $35 at the fur store.

I spent cash on food and beverages, a couple t-shirts, a can of musk ox meet, etc.

Came home with about $80 in my pocket.

    So....
    $500 cash
    $100 motel
    $250 flt to Eagle
    $35 fur samples

$885 total less the $80 I had left, so about $800 in total. That's $35/day if you want to average it out.

A round trip up there usually runs about $700/$800 coach.

Thanks for posting that. Looks like it doesn't cost a hole lot to go there. I'd like to stay like you did out of town and away from eveything. Ask your brother can I put a tent up in his yard......lol

There is actually quite a nice campground in Eagle, the picture in my travelogue of the 4-wheeler is at one of the empty campsites. Just remember, there is no restaurant within 100 miles or so.

    S&S,
Kill or catch..... Salmon are running if ya got a net. And most of the folks are quite friendly, get yourself invited for a meal! It would be difficult dragging a 1200 lb moose back to your tent...
