I'm into the heavy stuff. I usually like anything dry, red, and full bodied. Favorite varities are California Cabarnets, Red Zinfandels, Italian Brunellos, Barbarescos, super tuscans. I also enjoy Malbecs from South America and of course a good French Bordeaux.

I wasn't a "wine" person until I tried one with a steak. No I cant think of eating a good piece of beef without a good red wine to go with it.

Need some suggestions on food and wine combos?

ETA: None of these are "fru-fru" wines so save the wine snob jokes. These will put hair on your chest.

My current favorites are Red Zins. Bought a Rancho Zabaco 2007 this past week - plan to have it with Honey Baked ham next week when wifes sons are here.

    Other favorites:
Van Duzer Estate Pinot Noir (2005 was last vintage I had)
Twomey Merlot out right now but have had 4 bottles of 2000 vintage
I've loved any Geyser Peak red Zin I've had - now they have a separate company "XYZin" that does their zins as 10 yr old vines, 50 yr old vines, and 100 yr old vins. Haven't gotten to try any lately.

Had a nice Cabernet Sunday at a Christmas party, but will have to ask the hostess what it was..... I forgot....

Have a ZD Cabernet 2002 vintage in the rack, not quite ready to open it yet....

    XY Zin...very good stuff.

My best buy in a Red Zin is Ravenswood. I got 10 bottles of 2004 and 2005 at a grocery store sale for $5.00 ea. last year. They were outstanding with 4-5 years on them even though that runs against conventional wisdom.

I like the Lodi cabs, Earthquake is my current favorite.
