You're lucky - I have outages 6 or 7 times a year. Some storm-related and some due to ancient transmission equipment. They last only 24 - 48 hours usually, but I've had it out for 8 days once. Second year I was here, I got a generator, I need heat in the Winter and my well pumps are electric. I need water, no matter what season it is.

Dang that's not good. Our power only goes out a few times a year due to weather.
I need to look into a genset one day.
If you get one, make sure it's big enough. Refrigerator and freezer compressors, pump and furnace motors all have a high start current, they'll bog a small gererator down. The 8,250 Watt generator I have was only about $125 more than a 3,500 Watt set. That's this year's price - I finally wore out the earlier one I bought, had to get a new one.
