Default Looking at taking a new job

I have been kicking the idea around for the last year. Well last month I went ahead and submitted my resume and filed applications with a couple civilian contract companies for a job in Afghanistan. I did talk to a recruiter last Friday and she really liked my qualifications. I'll keep folks updated with any progress on this quest.

Semper Fi Arms will still be up and running but not nearly at the pace I have been operating. Both my wife and partner Craig will handle some sales and I am hiring a guy to go to a show or two a month to keep operating while I'm gone.

I enjoyed working as a contractor overseas. I was in the other sandbox though. I'd like to go to Stan, but I like being married too. What company?

Dyncorp is the one I have already talked to. The other two I have apps in with are Fluor and KBR.

Ewwww. I've heard good things about Dyncorp. Not so much about the other two. I know KBR was pretty harsh on their employees, but then again, most of them are TCNs. My experience with them was they were very stratified. I dealt with guys who ran the vehicle maintenance center on a fairly regular basis(I had a Toyota SUV)...most of them were from the former Yugoslavia. The guys who ran the trailer maintenance were American but had a bunch of Iraqis/Nepalis/Etc that did the heavy lifting. I was intel, so really only dealt with them tangentially, but still heard lots of stories.

    Fluor ran crap trucks...

Again, I was Iraq, not Stan, and that was two years ago now. Things change fast.

Dyncorp is good to go if the guys I've dealt with that work for them are typical of their employees. Good luck man. If I wasn't a half broken old man I would entertain the idea myself, but not too many companies want someone that is way over due for a knee and hip replacement and has a screwed up back. I could make them some killer coffee though.

I thought about doing the same thing a while back, wish you the best of luck and hope it works out well for you.
