When I look at this picture a lot comes to mind. I served in 02-06; deploying to Iraq in 03, Afghanistan in 04, and on the 26th MEU in 06. I was fortunate enough to not be in country during the IED craze. (Although they were being used, in 03 and 04 they were nowhere near as common as 05 and beyond.) In 2003 we rolled into Iraq in canvas sided trucks; imagine what an IED would do to a squad of Marines in a canvas Hi-Back.
But I digress, what really kills me is when I see a picture like this (knowing that there are plenty of other young men who have returned home in conditions similar to this) and all over the media the past few days a mother-******* wolf being removed from the endangered species list is the hot topic. I'm no wolf hater, I like wolves. However; would it not be accurate to say we have some greater issues at hand? It's ironic, if you die for your country you're viewed as being heroic; but, if you get injured to a point like this "some" people see you as a financial burden. I'm not pointing the finger to any particular individual, or party. The issues of our troops, and the support they receive is not about a political party, it's about a sense of patriotism. But until our government can assure that this young man will never have to worry about a financial burden, **** the wolves.
Sorry for the poorly constructed rant. I just saw that picture and wrote what came to mind.
