Default Oh the fun I had today

Long story short, I have a short in my Jeep. At first it was the key less door locks staying engaged. I didn't feel like messing with it last year so I disabled it and kept going. About a month later the horn started blowing and would not shut off so I pulled the fuse. Everything seemed OK until a couple months ago when the battery would go dead after 10 or 12 days sitting. I figured the battery was going bad since it was almost 5 years old. I replaced it and everything seemed good.

Last week I parked the jeep in the driveway and went to start it the next night to go to the store and the battery was deader than a doornail. I jumped it off and went on about my way. Same thing the next night. Hmmm, I got a short draining the battery. Well, I started looking today. I now have a crap load of leg room in the front seat of the Jeep since the entire dash has now been removed. I will start tomorrow morning tracing wires to find this short and maybe I'll fix the key less locks in the process.

Looking at the schematics the horn and horn relay are tied into the key less entry system so I figure it's all related.

I'll post a pic in the morning. I love this $^!t.

Found it. It seems that when the jeep was assembled a part of the harness got pinched between the firewall and the blower motor housing. The jeep is a '98 model, I'm surprised it lasted this long.

The wire in question is one of the ground wires for the key less door lock system. With it grounding to the frame it was keeping the horn relay energized and thus the horn blowing until I removed the horn fuse.

Now for the fun part, I get to put this 3D jigsaw puzzle back together.

As promised here is the picture before I pulled the heater/AC box.

My wife says when I get started on something like this I like a pit bull with a tennis ball. I put it off for a while because I knew what I was going to have to do to find it.
