Default Anyone see anything wrong with this?

Discuss. There are several elements to this I find disturbing.

Here is what I posted on another board about this subject.

There is good to having them but as for the gubberment having control of them will only lead to bad things eventually.

While I can not tolerate the big brother implications the black box on my work truck saved my butt 2 years ago.

May 2009 I was involved in a crash where someone turned left in front of me. the first collision damaged my steering to the point that it no longer functioned. My 26,000 pound truck traveled into oncoming traffic and collided with two more vehicles. One of which the other driver was killed. The box, when down loaded stated how fast I was traveling, 64 mph in a 65 zone, when I applied the brakes, and at what point the initial collision was to the second and the fatal one. All this information was used to clear me of responsibility and liability of the accident and the resulting death. This was made more of a factor since I drive a commercial vehicle.

As with any technology, there are always good points and there will ALWAYS be a dark side.

Here is what I find even more disturbing. Congress reviewed and rejected this last year, so our bureaucrats decide to do it anyway. If you can't pass a law, pass a regulation.

As with anything the government sticks its penis into, it will be abused.

First they will need to monitor the boxes for national security.
Then they will need to monitor them to fight the war on drugs.
Then they will need them to administer the coming mileage tax.

The mileage tax is coming, make no mistake. They intend to penalize people in rural areas (conservative) to subsidize urban areas (liberal). It won't matter if you're driving a 50mpg Prius 50 miles a day vs. a 10mpg Range Rover driving 10 miles a day, you'll get taxes 5 times more.
