Default Preparedness/survival: What are you doing?

With the dark cloud looming overhead I've been thinking about this more lately. I was doing really well last year, storing canned and dried goods. Money started getting tight though and my focus went to getting firearms before the election. Now I'm starting to look at my overall preparedness and I'm finding that its really lacking.

Anyone else have this on their mind? More importantly, does anyone have a plan to correct it? What are y'all doing to get yourself ready in case TSHTF?

Buying food in bulk helps save money when it comes time to start rotating what you've stored.Mylar bags and o2 obsorbers and heat sealer come in handy. It also gives you a back up supply of food.I like to use 1 gallon bags for things like sugar and salt[no o2 obsobers needed] and other foods so you don't have to break open a whole 5 gallon bag at once.Toilet paper and paper towels, soap, washing detergent, coffee and all other things that you would normally put on the grocery list. It's nice when you run out of something and all you have to do is go into your closet and get what you need.Water jugs and generator to run well.Sawyer products has a gravity fed water purifier that claims it will do 1 million gallons of water for about $45.00.Propane will store for yrs and will not degrade and you can by kits that will convert your gas generator to propane with simple installation.Propane will cook and heat and give light so that might be a good way to go.You can by an adapter that will fill your empty 1lb tanks from your 20lb tanks for about $25.00 or less.

Paper towels and such from walmart or drug stores when they have sales.Wheat from feed store, same wheat but not cleaned twice like store bought..Beans and lentils,I'll have to find the website but they offer 50lb bags.I'll try to send you a message when I find the site.I've got a lot of sites stored in favorites and don't remember right off who all I bought from.Part of the fun is looking for good deals.I can give you the places for the bags and o2 and heat jaw if you want.Food grade buckets from bakery or you can order with rubber seal lids but shipping might hurt..When you go to the store, just buy a little more along and along and it will start adding up after awhile..Mountain house will store for up to 30 yrs and you can buy 3 months or 1 year supplies that are alot cheaper than buying single #10 cans..Don't forget the good tinned tobacco and 12yr old scotch. Those are good even when the s... is not hitting the fan..

    357,
Thanks for the links! Those YouTube videos have good info in them.

Try hitting up restuarants for the resealable 5 gal buckets. They get food items in them (pickles for example) and a lot of places just throw them out.
