Default Adding a Ruger Air Hawk air rifle to my gun cabinet.

Adding a Ruger Air Hawk air rifle to my gun cabinet.

Ordered a Ruger Air Hawk air rifle from Sportsman's Guide and am looking forward to trying it out around the yard, got some pesky squirrels.

The rifle and 500 Champion pellets cost me $97.93, to my door.

I read many, many good reports on it. Plus, if Ruger puts their name on it, I figure it can't be too bad. We'll see.

I've ordered a .177 cal bore snake for it, too.

The gun and 23 reviews can be seen at http://www.pyramydair.com/p/ruger-ai...ir-rifle.shtml

    Anything else I should know?

I thought that too, but from what I read, some of them arrive dirty. It was recommended that a rod not be used to clean the air rifle - hence, the bore snake.

Also, I read that as pellet speeds get around 1000 fps, you may get some leading - it was all new to me. But I'd rather error on the side of cleanliness.

So, before I shoot it, I want to be sure the bore is clean.

From that point one, I believe a pellet cleans the bore from the previous pellet. Then, I go to wondering - when you fire your last pellet, what cleans it then.

BTW, the snake was advertised as "For Air Guns/Rifles." So I guess you do clean 'em after all. occasionally.

I always wanted one of the .22 air rifles. They seem like they would be fun to have and shoot.

I have some cotton? pellets for cleaning - you just shoot them. This is my $30 squirrel gun (WalMart several years ago) and a $19.95 green dot from Cabelas:
