    I think you are correct. I'm willing to forgoe aethetics, but I'm a little worried about the fit. I suppose if I buy from a reputable place online, I should be able to return it.

    I replaced the tlr1 pic above with an actual pic of an XDM with a tlr because the original was actually a surefire. Which makes me think I should look at Surefire too.

    edited at add: Holy cow. The x300 is twice as much as the tlr and does the same thing (as far as I can tell).

    The surefire X300 is smaller,lighter, and brighter than the TLR-1 and *** near bulletproof. That said, The TLR-1 is probably the better light for your purposes. I don't think you or I will see the extra $150.00 worth of performance, but someone who carries a gun for a living might get the benefit of the Surefire.

    I would stay away from anything multimode. I've read on M4C of a bad experience a LEO had with strobe modes on a dept issued Insight. He was trying to do a momentary on during a building search, but the strobe mode activated and ran for 10-15 seconds until he could turn it off. Blinded and disoriented everyone around.
