Default My Ruger 2245 Mk III

I got this pistol in late September and have really liked it. Today I took the BSA green-dot sight off the Super Redhawk .454 and put it on my 2245. then I got carried away. Last Monday I had sent off to Canada for a hammer bushing to take up the slack when I remove the magazine safety. Today I ordered from MidwayUSA a Volquartsen target trigger with take-up and over-travel adjustment, a Volquartsen exact edge extractor, a couple misc items, and then directly from Volquartsen I ordered a target sear.

I'm certainly hopeful I can get all this stuff installed myself! And that it shoots as well as many of the folks over on rimfirecentral talk about it

Now you have to get something threaded and get a can. Those are some nice platforms, but I doubt I'd ever mess with them. I like them them though.

Pictures? If you can't install it there are some smiths around here who can.

Decided to install the extractor today. Disassembled the gun (no easy task with a Ruger semi .22......) Figured garage is not a good place to work on it - set up card table in basement by computer. Used a box lid to work in so I wouldn't lose anything. Got detailstrip online so I won't screw up. Go upstairs to ask wife for her set of picks that I saw during the holidays (sort of like dental picks) She tells me she sent them home with her sons to work on their guitars....

Okay... back to garage, gotta look through 7 large tool boxes under the work bench looking for something that will work. In the LAST box I found a "sort-of" pick... brought it in and it was a bugger-bear - but eventually I got the old extractor out. this is supposed to be a 15 minute job, right? That's what they told me over on rimfirecentral... try try and try again.... which way is that flat spot on the plunger supposed to go? Try some more. Suddenly the "pick" slips and the new extractor is GONE. Didn't see it, didn't hear it hit anything. Look all over the floor, table, behind stuff. Go upstairs and complain to wife. Open beer. Express disappointment that she gave the picks to her sons just when I needed them - trying to make it her fault. Got flashlight and we both looked under and around things.

Finally decided I'd invest another $12 and order another extractor. Pulled chair over to computer, looked down at the bottom shelf below the printer and dang if it wasn't there!

Moved card table up against wall. set big boxes open around where I was working. put a little logical thought into how that flat on the plunger should work. Bam! got 'er done!

Took bolt back to garage, finished cleaning pistol, reassembled. Time for another beer.

Fifteen minutes, right?

I can give you a "so far" report. 100% stock - it's worked quite well. Probably run 1000 rounds through it. Mine is a 5 1/2" bbl Hunter in blue with fiber optic front site. I usually shoot at 10 meters and feel it's done pretty well (for the way I shoot.) I then put my $19.95 BSA green-dot sight on it (5 MOA dot) and shooting crosswise at the range at the 10 meter target I was getting about a one inch group rested. Then I moved the target down to 25 meters and blasted away. I had no problem (except a couple jerked shots) pumping over 100 rounds into a 5" shoot-n-see bulls eye at that distance. Remember my eyes are very close to 63 years old....

I'm really looking forward the the new sear and the target trigger with both take up and over travel adjustments.

I had checked out a MKIII a couple of years ago, but went with a Browning BuckMark with fiber optic sights and nice textured grips that fit me a bit better. Good luck and enjoy your Ruger. Sounds like a nice piece.
