23.5 has very little verticle stringing, a little horizontal, but not bad.

Also you jumped in half grain increments, now go back to 23.5 and go .3 on each side .... 23.2, 23.3, 23.4, 23.6, 23.7, 23.8. Then when you get even tighter than that you can play with the seating depth.

Play with seating depth to get closer or further away from the lands and grooves in your barrel. But keep in mind dont load em out too far that they dont feed in a magazine ....

IF you can find some older MagPul Pmags, the OLD ones not the new revision M or whatever is out there they will allow for a little longer bullet and still feed.

Wow! That would be precision. I've got em just long enough to fit in the mag as it stands. I'll give the grain step a shot.

you know that you can go all the way to 24 grains with no problems .....

So Id load 5 of each and shoot em for groups and see if you can get anything better. Make sure you load everything the same at first to be able to get charge weight, then you can play with the seating depth and then if you want to play even more, you can play with the amount of crimp.

Not using crimp on these. Prefer not to use it if possible. Any reason why I should?

Interesting. Based on Outsydlooknin75's comment I tested to see how long I could make my round fit in my older Magpul mag. Lee lists the OAL as 2.260. AR15's Big List comes out at 2.258. Magpul's older mags will accept 2.275, and my rifle will fit the round without forcing the projectile back, although I can see the round is engaging in the rifling. Now the real question, would I really see much difference in MOA by adjusting the seating depth up to the 2.275 limit of the mag? Remember, this is a 16" barrel.

Speer’s tests, and those by another bullet maker and an independent gun writer, show that crimping a bullet that doesn’t have a crimp groove degrades group size by an average of 40 percent.
The 77 gr Sierra's I'm using don't have crimp grooves. Just curious as to your point of view as I wasn't planning on crimping any of my rounds, 223, 6.8 or 308.

What you will see is that some bullets are what are considdered "jump tolerable" and some arent. What you need to do is measure the OGIVE on the bullet ..... which is the point at where the taper hits the bearing surface. Then use that as your length measurement and move that closer and further away from the lands and grooves. Some bullets like to be jammed into the rifling, some bullets like to jump a little .... but it is a rule of thumb the closer you can get the ogive to the rifling the better and less time a bullet will have the opportunity to enter the barrel at an off angle.

Now when jamming a bullet into the rifling it may cause pressure to spike, so watch out for it.

I dont crimp for my bolt gun ... for semi stuff some do crimp just as an added precaution to keep bullet set back from happening.

But since you dont have a cannurle (or however it is spelled) dont worry about crimping, but you want to keep the neck tension the same for best results.

I was just reading up on that. Anyway, gonna start with the 1 gr jumps first, then I worry about seat depth.
