I guess you're talking about a 45ACP, if so I believe your problem is going to be the roll crimp you stated your are using. The 45ACP headspaces on the case mouth and needs a taper crimp die. If you use a roll crimp die then the case has nothing to stop it from going to far into the chamber and the firing pin will not strike the primer hard enough. 45ACP die sets come with a taper crimp die, are you sure you have a roll crimp die? If you're using a taper crimp die, you my be crimping too much which will also cause headspace problems.
Seems to me that for a .45 auto you have to taper crimp, not roll crimp. I load for revolvers only with a roll crimp, because the cartridge seating is on the base, not the front of the case as in an auto.
+1 on taper crimping... no roll crimps on anything that head spaces on the case mouth.
I don't roll crimp my 45 reloads. I have a separate taper crimp die and crimp at a separate station on my LnL press. And even then, I just apply enough taper crimp to remove the bell I put on the mouth of the brass to ease bullet seating. I think if you taper crimp, instead of roll crimping, you'll solve your problems with FTFs.
The only thing I roll crimp is my 44 Mag and 45-70 Gov't reloads.
are you useding a case gages ? i ck. ever rd. that i load. if you do not have a case gages you can used a barrel out of the gun.
